SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Patrick Joyce (D-Essex) released the following statement after hearing the governor’s proposed Fiscal Year 2025 budget:
“Today’s budget address had funding suggestions that our state needs to continue to prioritize such as education, public safety and economic development.
“The governor’s proposal sets a framework for us to begin having conversations to develop a final plan. We need a budget that is not only fiscally responsible but also considers parents, workers, seniors, veterans and farmers.
“This is a good start to begin discussions. I am hopeful my colleagues and I can come together over the next few months to ensure we can pass a balanced budget.”
SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Patrick Joyce introduced a measure before the Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday that would expand the Thorn Creek Woods Nature Preserve in Will County.
“The transfer of this portion of land would be a big win for the Thorn Creek Woods Nature Preserve,” said Joyce (D-Essex). “By acquiring more land, there would be an increased opportunity for public uses, allowing residents to further enjoy the natural resources included within.”
Senate Bill 3091 authorizes the Department of Natural Resources to transfer over 10 acres of land to the Will County Forest Preserve to expand the Thorn Creek Woods Nature Preserve, located in Joyce’s district.
“Preserving our natural landscapes is essential so we can be certain our lands remain in good condition,” said Joyce. “This legislation shows the dedication to environmental conservation and land management, ensuring that these 10 acres remain protected and accessible for years to come.”
Senate Bill 3091 passed the Senate Judiciary Committee and now awaits consideration among the full Senate.
KANKAKEE – In response to Aqua Illinois filing a request with the Illinois Commerce Commission to increase the rate they charge for water, State Senator Patrick Joyce (D-Essex) issued the following statement Wednesday:
“Aqua Illinois recently filed for a water rate increase that could cause unnecessary financial hardships on families. Now is not the time to place another economic burden on residents by hiking up the price of an essential resource. While I understand the need for sustainable funding, it is important to consider the impact this will have on our community. We should be prioritizing the affordability and accessibility of water for residents.”
KANKAKEE — In an effort spread love and uplift the spirits of seniors in the 40th District, State Senator Patrick Joyce invites residents of all ages to get creative and donate homemade or store-bought valentines.
“This card drive is an opportunity for every member of our community to come together and show appreciation for our seniors,” said Joyce (D-Essex). “This is a simple gesture that is bound to brighten the day of seniors around the district, letting them know the community cares about them.”
Joyce is encouraging community members in the area to write Valentine’s Day cards, which can be dropped off or mailed to his district office. Once all the cards have been collected, they will be delivered to various senior facilities in the 40th District.
The collection of Valentine’s Day cards will run through Friday, Feb. 9. Those wishing to participate can drop off cards at Joyce’s office or mail them to his office at 179 S. Wall St., Kankakee, IL 60901.
